WPC Poster Contest

Your child is invited to participate in an international poster contest that could win him or her money for the school and the student. World Plumbing Day is an international event on March 11th initiated by the World Plumbing Council (WPC) celebrating the important role plumbing plays in protecting the health and safety of society.

Poster Criteria:

  • Poster entries should be from students in grades 1 through 5.
  • Must have the words “World Plumbing Day” and the date “March 11, 2012.”
  • The poster must be on a standard-sized sheet of paper. For example, A4 sized
paper or US letterhead sized paper.
  • Poster entries will be judged on how well they relate to the presentation rather than
    on artistic merit alone.

Prizes

  • Small prizes will be provided for the best poster in each class (to be determined by the presenter).
  • The winning posters will be submitted in an international competition where prizes will be awarded by the World Plumbing Council:

1st Prize: US$1,000 to the school and US$100 to the student
2nd Prize: US$500 to the school and US$50 to the student
3rd prize: US$250 to the school and US$25 to the student

Many schools would welcome the opportunity to have a visit from a representative of the plumbing industry to talk about the health (and/or environmental aspects of plumbing). WPC members have given talks about “Water and Health” in their local primary school and this is an excellent opportunity to promote World Plumbing Day and inform them about the poster contest. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation can be downloaded here. A copy of the contest rules can also be downloaded here and printed for distribution at the school or in a poster format.

CANADA

CIPH/MCAC

Once again, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) are “teaming up” to promote World Plumbing Day 2012.

Joint (CIPH/MCAC) press releases in both English and French are being prepared and will be circulated to numerous media outlets including trade publications across Canada.

An official letter has been sent to the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister, requesting that he, or a representative of the Federal Government, make a proclamation in the House of Commons supporting World Plumbing Day , 2012. We will also be reaching out to senior policy makers across Canada to help with this endeavour.

We will be doing something similar in February highlighting a MCAC/CIPH message about World Plumbing Day as outlined in the promotional video of World Plumbing Council Chairman, Russ Chaney : http://www.worldplumbingday.org/

Similar to last year we also encourage all CIPH Regions and members to get involved. Ideas include requesting your provincial legislature and/or your municipality to recognize World Plumbing Day through proclamations....and of course the now famous "Hug a Plumber" wave! MCAC will be doing something similar with their provincial and local chapters. Perhaps you may wish to contact your local MCAC Zone and coordinate activities.

Another suggestion is to seek out a volunteer(s) who will make arrangements to meet with students at a local elementary school (s) to talk about World Plumbing Day and the importance of plumbing.

UNITED STATES

IAPMO Poster Contest

To increase the interest and excitement in World Plumbing Day, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is sponsoring an iPod Touch sweepstakes drawing for intermediate school children in the sixth through eighth grades. For downloadable educational materials (including a short, fun introductory video) and poster design contest details that are being made available to schools nationwide in commemoration of this important day, visit www.iapmo.org/Pages/WorldPlumbingDayContest.aspx. The children submit their promotional posters on the theme “Plumbing Moves Society Forward” with their name, grade level, teacher’s name, school name and address. The prize is sent to the school for the winning student.
